Follow Your Dream, Day #416: Spotlight on Steven Brunning

In all of the commercial video releases for the various iterations of Lord of the Dance, only three performers have ever been featured as the Dark Lord: Daire Nolan, Tom Cunningham, and Steven Brunning.

Steven holds the unique distinction of being the Dark Lord for the Feet of Flames World Tour, which took place at the turn of the millennium in 2000-2001. He's also a Lord of the Dance OG, having started with the original troupe in 1996.

Steven's interpretation of the Dark Lord is very different from that of Daire or Tom. His Dark Lord is a scrappy street fighter, loud and brash. This is best illustrated in Jester's Nightmare, a unique reinterpretation of the plot in which it is the Little Spirit -- now the Court Jester, still played by the legendary Helen Egan Maguire in another amazing performance -- who is singled out for execution instead of the Lord of the Dance. Both it and the Duel variation you see here are unique to the Feet of Flames World Tour.

Of course, that tour was twenty years ago. Has Steven "Stunning" Brunning lost a step in all that time?

See for yourself.
