Follow Your Dream, Day #566: Albert Yao

This man's name is Albert Yao. He is part of the changing face of #IrishDance.

Albert is a native of Taiwan; he performed with #LordOfTheDance to his hometown crowd during the #FeetOfFlames Impossible Tour last month, and has in fact toured with the show before.

Albert exemplifies the #TeamLord ethos: a consummate overachiever, he learned #IrishDancing on the other side of the world, all while attending Harvard and Berkeley -- simultaneously.

Twenty-seven years ago, Michael Flatley's explosive art form overlaid atop Irish dance took the world completely by surprise and gave birth to an entire new genre of entertainment -- the professional Irish dance show -- exporting Irish culture to all parts of the world. Today, the second generation of Irish dance professionals -- those who grew up in a world where professional Irish dancing has always existed -- are taking the stage, and they hail from all parts of the globe. The Feet of Flames All-Star Troupe had performers from Hungary, Belarus, Taiwan, and several other countries; Michael's art form, and the global phenomenon it created, lives on.

Remember this: if you want to be in Team Lord, your country of origin does not matter. Your skin color does not matter. Your native tongue does not matter. All that matters is what you bring to that stage and what you carry in your heart.

The Irish Dance Globe ran a story on Albert, and we encourage you to read it. Keep an eye on him and every other member of the All-Star Troupe; they are the beacon that points the way to the future.
